I finally got around to watching Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism. While it's not the most organized of documentaries, it's well worth watching. I think we all know that Fox News is anything but "fair and balanced," but the creators of this film have spent a lot of time identifying the many ways in which Fox has abandoned the very concept of journalism and become a GOP propaganda machine. I was actually stunned by the degree to which they parrot Bush administration press released. The internal memos outlining the "message of the day" are quite stunning; there's not the slightest pretense of objective news reporting in them. It's quite depressing, and will make you feel helpless; how does anyone have a chance with the largest media corporation in human history signing on as a partisan organization? If you're feeling exhausted after the last election, and need a kick in the ass to make you start speaking up again, though, this is a good place to start.
